WESTERN BULLDOGS defender Buku Khamis has praised his teammates and coaching staff following an important win over West Coast.

Speaking during an appearance on SEN Breakfast with Sam Edmund and Tom Morris, Khamis said the Club's win against West Coast was essential at this point in the season.

“It (winning) was very important, especially after last week in Sydney, it felt like we were a little bit inconsistent throughout the game but ultimately it was good to get the four points and now we turn our focus to the Gold Coast,” Khamis said.

Khamis spoke on how the team has been able to adapt well to the modern-day defending style that has dominated the game.

“At our Club we have a good balance of trying to be proactive, just trying to quickly adjust and react in game and trying to adjust your positioning to risk manage,” Khamis said.

“It can be tough because you're relying on things happening up the field, it's definitely on the player to adjust on the fly to obviously try and not get yourself burnt, just doing what's best for the team in terms of risk managing.”

Khamis also spoke on how he copes with the challenges of playing AFL and being in the public eye, as well as his love for the Club.

“It can be tough at times playing AFL every week in the spotlight…I’m just focused on the team and playing good footy and ultimately just learning every week,” he said.

“It's really important to sometimes block out the noise…just try to stay connected to my coaches, Daniel Pratt, my teammates as well, the ones that are experienced and just try to learn and make changes in my game that go a long way.

“I definitely love the Western Bulldogs, love playing my footy here at the Bulldogs. I've obviously been here eight years, Next Gen (Next Generation) Academy as well, so I have a lot of love for the boys and coaches.

"I’m really happy with how things are going at the moment.

“I wanted to play more AFL footy and I feel like i've been able to achieve that this year playing most games.

"I just want to keep seeing that out, playing good footy is the most important thing for the footy club so that's what I'm focusing on.”
