The Western Bulldogs Football Club has launched its new Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP), re-affirming its commitment to positive social impact.
The document, which sets out the Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) ambitions of the Club and its Community Foundation, is the second of its kind and aims to further promote and advance D&I within the Club and the wider community, encompassing players, staff, members, and supporters.
Writing in the opening Commitment Statement, Club President Kylie Watson-Wheeler and CEO Ameet Bains acknowledge that to live up to its designation as the league's community club requires "ongoing meaningful effort".
"The power of footy and the platform it provides to reach diverse communities and achieve tangible, positive change is not lost on us, and through this plan we firmly commit to leveraging our influential platform for the greater good," the statement reads.
"While significant progress has been made there is certainly more to do. As a Club we always strive to inspire and include our fans and members as we look to improve and grow. We look forward to furthering this journey with our entire community."
This plan is built around four diversity focus areas: gender, multiculturalism, LGBTQI+ and people with a disability, while its commitments are detailed across four key pillars of activity: Governance & Strategy, Education & Training, Football and Events & Communications.
The DIAP spans a three-year period until 2029 and sits alongside the Club's Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), which was first created in 2018 and aims to build a culture of equality, respect and recognition of the cultures, histories and contributions of First Nations peoples.
Both documents detail the tangible actions that will help the Club harness the transformative power of sport to foster a connected, equitable and empowered community where every person feels seen, respected and that they belong.
