First-year Bulldog Amaia Wain has extended her contract to at least the end of the 2027 NAB AFLW Season.

Wain’s AFLW career has taken off quickly, joining the Kennel just four months ago via the pre-season supplementary draft before making her league debut in the Round 1 win over Gold Coast.

A graduate of the Sydney Swans Academy, the young ruck demonstrated her athleticism and versatility in that game, collecting four disposals and four tackles.

AFLW List Manager Dan Fisher said the contract extension was welcome reward for the 18-year-old.

“We loved the raw traits that Amaia was showing early this year with her speed, leap and contest at ground level with clean hands,” Fisher said.

“She’d shown a great rate of improvement after moving from Coffs Harbour to Sydney earlier this year, which allowed her to access quality training more regularly. The further development she’s shown since being part of our program has seen her elevate again.

“Her ascent to a debut in Round 1 is testament to the hard work she’s put in but also her talent. We’re excited to see what the future holds for her.”

The Bulldogs have started the 2026 NAB AFLW campaign 2-0 after defeating Gold Coast and Richmond in the first two rounds.
