On the result:
“I think we competed really well, and played really well in the first quarter. There was some good stuff in the second quarter and then they just brought the pressure after half time which was a little bit disappointing.
“We were a little bit jumpy in the third quarter but then really proud of the girls – we probably started to play the way that we've been playing previously especially around contests in that last quarter.
“Our ability not to capitalise on entries was disappointing but they're a great side.”
On the third-quarter blitz:
“Their pressure (was immense) and our fundamentals were really poor in that quarter.
“We turned the ball over a lot in our attacking mid zone, so we had the ball up in our forward-half but we weren't able to keep it in there or get any bang for buck.
“They just used the ball much better in that third quarter than we did and had some really good looks.”
On the team’s ability to respond in the last quarter:
“We fixed it straight away which was pleasing, but the thing for us is that we're an ambitious group. We just need to make sure that we're doing it for four quarters.
“At the moment we're probably just having lapses during games and against good sides you can't have that. (The Hawks) showed that today and they punished us with that.”
On the midfield group:
“Pritch been great and I think our midfield group (as a collective) has been really good.
“I think the addition of Mikala Cann has helped, Fitz has been great through there as has Dom, and then someone that probably gets missed is Alice Edmonds.
“Apart from last week, she's playing 100% game time against a quality ruck.”
On Isabelle Pritchard’s start to the season:
“Pritch really went to work over the off-season, but the message (as co-captain) is just lead authentically. I feel like that's enabled her to go out there with some really clear thoughts and just play.
“I think she had a pretty good season last year and the year before as well…there’s probably a bit more belief that she can compete with the best.
“Maybe that's the mindset shift - that she's good enough to be considered amongst the best midfielders in the game and the proof's in the pudding. She's performing week after week.”
On the ruck battle:
“I'd probably have to go back and watch the vision to be honest…I think Alice's ability to compete for four quarters is really good.
“I'm not sure who took the win on the day but you've got two quality rucks there competing. Anytime both of those get their hand on the ball it's an advantage for the team.”
On resetting for next week:
“I said to the players the challenge now is to be able to do it for four quarters. We found that we've probably had some lapses and maybe that's a sign of the maturity of the group, but we're starting to get better.
“They’re pretty determined to put another good week in on the track.
“I can't probably speak highly enough of the group, because every time they turn up to training they want to get better and I know that this won't be any different from that.”
