Western Bulldogs forward Heidi Woodley has credited her teammates for a career-best outing against Port Adelaide.

Woodley added four goals from 17 disposals to help the Bulldogs overrun Port by 13 points at Mission Whitten Oval, but said she was the beneficiary of solid teamwork.

“I was obviously very fortunate to put some scores on the board, but I wouldn’t have been able to do that without the work of the mids and the backs, and even the forwards,” Woodley said post-match.

“It was an incredible game – it was great to get the four points.”

Woodley said there was still room for improvement, despite the final result going their way.

“We probably didn’t nail it today in terms of slowing down (Port’s) momentum – at the end of each quarter they probably came at us more than we would’ve liked,” she said.

“Compared to where we were a couple of years ago though, we were able to take our moments today and shift the momentum back our way.”

“Doing more of that for four quarters is (the next step).”

She said pressure was a key focus for the forwards coming into the game, and an important reminder at half-time when the visitors got back within two goals.

“We probably pride ourselves as a forward group on our pressure – as a team, you’re not going to get the outcome if you don’t defend first,” Woodley said.

“I think doing that as a collective rather than relying on one person to do that (is important).”

The Bulldogs will next face St Kilda at Mars Stadium on Saturday 3 October.
