Season Overview:
The youngest player on the Bulldogs list, rookie Alex Greenwood made significant progress in his development as an inside midfielder. Transitioning from Williamstown’s development squad to their senior VFL ranks, Greenwood finished the season as one of the better players in Seagull’s finals campaign. Highly capable around the clearances, Greenwood has clean hands as well as being an accurate kick. An ankle injury mid-January put him on the back foot to begin the year but he worked hard to regain ground and it paid dividends.

By the Numbers:
Unafraid to put his body on the line, Greenwood averaged over four tackles per senior VFL game, laying seven or more tackles on five occasions. Playing alongside a solid midfield cohort, he took more responsibility around the stoppages as the season progressed, averaging 2.1 clearances each game. Despite being much slighter than the bigger bodied men in the VFL, Greenwood also amassed more than six contested possessions per game and 3.2 hard ball gets. Of his six games in Williamstown’s Development Squad he was named amongst the best in four.

Season Highlight:
Greenwood stepped up in Williamstown’s finals campaign putting in a solid appearance against Bendigo Gold in the Elimination Final. He collected 22 disposals (seven contested) at 77.3% accuracy as well as five marks and seven tackles. He made an impact around the ground with five clearances, three inside 50s and four hard ball gets.

Pre-Season Focus:
The smaller bodied midfielder will need to spend a substantial amount of time in the gym in his first full pre-season. Coming straight out of TAC Cup he did not have the ready-made build of an AFL player and will need to continue to bulk up his frame to compete at the higher level. Working on his endurance and ability to handle contest after contest for the full four quarters will also put him in good stead in his role.
