Development Coach and Senior Williamstown Coach Peter German talks to westernbulldogs.com.au about how Bulldogs listed players are tracking in the VFL.
Tory Dickson: Tory played the first half. He was effective with his forward play at times. He defended well with some good defensive forward play as well.
Tom Hill: Played in the forward line and in the ruck and was one of our best players this week. He had 21 possessions and 11 ruck taps as well as taking 8 marks and a lot of them were contested. His hard work is really starting to pay off through the preseason and now he is starting to show that he can start mixing it up and be a quality player in the VFL seniors.
Daniel Pearce: Daniel probably started slowly but then built into the game. He played in a multitude of positions - went forward and kicked the first goal in the first thirty seconds of the third quarter which gave us a really good set up for after half time. He is tough and he works hard so we are really looking forward to him improving each week.
Fletcher Roberts: He was reasonably quiet compared to some of his games this year. He has been playing a key role for us down back so his defensive play has been quite steady and we have to make sure he can keep going week by week. A little quiet but he did chip in at times and set up a goal or two.
Justin Sherman: He was probably one of our better players. He really worked hard and got a lot of possessions and nine tackles - we thought it was probably one of his best games since he has been at the Club. He kicked 1 goal 4 behinds which was probably the downside - that he missed a couple of easy goals. I think in his last couple of weeks he has improved each week, so now he is hopefully going to press strongly for senior selection with his all-round performance.
Zephaniah Skinner: He was a little bit quiet. In the third quarter he set up a couple of goals. That is what happens with Zephy though, he can be a bit quiet and then get involved and set up a couple of goals. That was a real positive part of his game, that he is willing to try to get other players into the game. We are also looking for Zephy to start making more impact over the next couple of weeks.
Michael Talia: Talia was in defence and defended really well. He mopped up really well - I think he had 23 possessions as a defender so he did his job in the air and also at ground level. He was able to win a fair bit of the ball and help set up some rebounds from our back 50. He had four tackles so it was a really good solid performance by Michael.
Jason Tutt: He played the first quarter and started tightening up in the hamstring so we took a cautious approach and rested him.
Patrick Veszpremi: Pat played down in the back half and was a good contributor. He had 26 possessions and used them really well. He was able to go forward a couple of times and kick one. But his ball use was good and his run from defence was good. His one on one defending after quarter time was really good.
Mitch Wallis: Mitch was one of our key drivers in the midfield. Got a lot of the ball and won a lot of stoppages. He was able to influence the game just with his four quarter work rate and had four tackles and kicked a really nice goal early. It is always good when a midfielder can go forward and hit the scoreboard. Mitch was one of our better players.
Mark Austin: He was solid again with his second game in VFL football this year. Ozzie has been almost our best defender in the past few weeks just for his sheer determined nature and the way he has been able to nullify his opponents. He played on a tall in his first game and on the weekend he played on a smaller typed forward and was able to adapt really well to both types of players.
Tom Campbell: Tom Campbell was our main ruckman for the day and he had 32 hit outs. His work-rate was high around the ground again and he did some pieces of play that were able to set up his teammates. He is getting better each week and just playing with some real physicality.
Jason Johannisen: JJ is creating some noise in terms of the way he is playing. He is really taking the game on. He has been able to defend but at the same time set us up with some good offensive run from the back line. I think he is showing each week that he is growing with confidence and his agility and speed off the mark is a real asset.
Jack Redpath: It was probably his best game. Jack quite easily could have kicked four goals and had some really good pressure acts in the forward line that was able to assist with some turnovers. He is a player that we expect each week to get better and build with confidence so he was a positive out of the game on the weekend.
