An experienced Footscray Bulldogs outfit was far too good for the Casey Demons at VU Whitten Oval on Monday morning, recording a 105-point scratch match win.

The Bulldogs’ line-up featured 16 AFL-listed players, headlined by off-season recruit Adam Treloar and star defender Jason Johannisen.

Treloar made it through his first hit-out in red, white and blue unscathed, playing two-and-a-half quarters in a comeback from a calf injury to push his case for round one selection.

The star midfielder had 19 disposals and six clearances, spending time across all three lines.

It was an all-round performance from an impressive Bulldogs unit.

Johannisen found plenty of the football after missing selection for the Bulldogs’ AAMI Community Series game, as did fellow rebounding defender Taylor Duryea, who had the ball on a string and used his penetrating left boot to great effect.

Key forward Josh Schache nailed the first two goals of the game, with fellow AFL-listed forwards Ben Cavarra and Cody Weightman kicking three and two goals respectively.

Ruckman Jordon Sweet had an impact around the stoppages, Will Hayes found plenty of the ball on a wing and key defender Zaine Cordy was strong in the air.

Pleasingly for the ‘Scray, there were significant contributions from VFL-listed players.

Forward Corey Preston snagged four goals, while Robbie McComb chimed in with two and found plenty of the footy.

Lachie Sullivan impressed around the ball and Austin Hodge also had an impact – with both slotting a major each.
