Dale Morris says he is overwhelmed by the support he has received as he begins his rehabilitation to overcome a serious knee injury.

Morris suffered a small tear to his anterior cruciate ligament at the Bulldogs’ training session on Thursday at VU Whitten Oval.

He will now undergo a targeted strength and rehabilitation program, with the club confident of a mid-season return for the defender.

"I've got a great support network around me," Morris told westernbulldogs.com.au

"My wife and kids at home and my family and then my second family - the Bulldogs. The amount of calls and texts I've got has just been unbelievable.

"You really do feel the love around here when this stuff happens. I'm very lucky."

Morris will wear a leg brace in the early stages of his recovery, with a focus on upper body cross training while his knee settles.

"The best thing for my rehab and getting better is to get back and get around the guys," he said.

"We've got an exciting young group that I look forward to being part of later this year.

"At the moment I'll be doing a lot of work off the field. Hopefully I can help out some young defenders as well as focussing on my rehab.

"There are some opportunities there for me and I just can't wait to get back out there."
