Finishing the season on a positive note.
That was the aim as we headed into the weekends game against the GWS Giants in Canberra.
Heading out on the road for the second weekend in a row was another great opportunity to get away as a team.
Once again, the focus was on ourselves and how well we can play to our game plan and processes. The aim was to win every quarter – obviously if we do that we win the game – and we achieved that.
Getting the win was just awesome. We felt that we’d improved a lot in the last couple of weeks without getting the wins, and to finally get some reward was great.
We knew the Giants would come to play – and they certainly did. The first half was tough, and fighting back late in the second quarter was key for us as we headed into the half-time break.
A 32-point win was a pleasing result and finishing on a high was important going forward. Celebrating with the loyal fans that had travelled up to Canberra and then finally singing the song once again as a team were highlights.
Although the season didn’t go as planned, we all learnt a lot and the experience has just been incredible. Every single player lived out a dream this season, and although the losses were disappointing and frustrating, pulling on the red, white and blue each weekend was a privilege.
Being welcomed into the Western Bulldogs family is something that I will cherish for a very long time. It was an honour to be a member of the inaugural Western Bulldogs AFLW team, and to represent the club and the trailblazers that have done so much for women’s footy such as Susan Alberti and Lisa Hardeman.
Meeting and interacting with the Bulldogs faithful all over the country – be it at VU Whitten Oval, Ballarat, Brisbane or Canberra – and experiencing the love firsthand that the fans have for their club was something special.
What a ride it has been! Thank you for being a part of our journey and experiencing the highs and lows with us.
