2021 SUMMARY
Western Bulldogs 5th: 15-7 132.8%
St Kilda 10th: 10-12 91.5%

LAST MEETING
Western Bulldogs 21.18 (144) def. St Kilda 5.3 (33)

The Bulldogs reclaimed the Barker-Whitten Challenge Plate with a triple-figure triumph over the Saints in round 10, 2021. Despite the somewhat scrappy start, the Bulldogs’ seven-to-one goal second term set the tone, taking a 51-point into the main break. The Dogs were relentless – even when the game was already won – slotting 13 of the final 15 goals. Captain Marcus Bontempelli starred, notching up 26 disposals and eight inside-50s while kicking four goals, ball-magnet Jack Macrae (41 touches) again found plenty of the footy, and clearance king Tom Liberatore (31) was influential in the middle.

THE TALKING POINTS

Bruce is back

Over 340 days since his last senior game, spearhead Josh Bruce will return to AFL action against his former side tomorrow night. Since crossing over from St Kilda during the 2019 AFL Trade Period, Bruce has played 37 games in the red, white and blue while adding 62 goals. His return will be a much-welcomed proposition, reuniting with Aaron Naughton as the pair look to replicate the impact they had up forward in season 2021.

Barker-Whitten Challenge Plate on offer

The Barker-Whitten Challenge Plate is played once a year between the Bulldogs and Saints, named in honour of legendary duo Ted Whitten and Trevor Barker. The Plate highlights the Trevor Barker Foundation and the EJ Whitten Foundation – both of which partner with Challenge, an organisation dedicated to supporting children and their families living with cancer. The Barker-Whitten Challenge Plate is awarded to the winning captain post-match, with the Bulldogs currently in possession.

Road Safety Round

The Western Bulldogs are throwing their support behind the TAC and AFL Victoria’s Road Safety Round this weekend. Coaches, players, and supporters from more than 1000 Victorian football and netball clubs will don blue armbands this weekend, to band together to eliminate deaths and serious injuries on the road. These armbands will be available at local football clubs and handed out to those wanting to get behind the cause. To get involved or find out more about Road Safety Round, visit the TAC’s Band Together page, and use #tacbandtogether on social media.

Member Thank You Round

Friday night’s match will also provide an opportunity to say thanks and celebrate to the loyal and dedicated red, white and blue members. For the first time in Club history, the Bulldogs exceeded 50,000 members this week – just two months after achieving the all-time Club record of 47,961 – while also reaching a record 3500 AFLW membership tally. As part of the match-day, members will take centre-stage in all the activations, with extra activities and giveaways also available in the fan zone.
