Reigning Footscray Best and Fairest winner Lachie Sullivan will continue as VFL captain in season 2023.

Sullivan has played 50 games in the red, white and blue since arriving at the Kennel in 2019.

He has captained the side for the last two seasons, enjoying a breakout 2022 campaign to claim the Best and Fairest award and earn selection in the VFL Team of the Year.

Sullivan will be supported by a leadership group consisting of Dan Orgill, Ewan Macpherson, Joel Garner and Jay Rantall.

Orgill is in his fourth season as a Bulldog, averaging 13 disposals and five tackles from 15 games last year.

Father-son prospect Macpherson was recruited in 2021, having appeared in the red, white and blue on 25 occasions.

Garner crossed to the Bulldogs last year after a stint with Port Adelaide, managing 13 VFL matches.

Rantall, formerly on Collingwood’s senior list, joined the ‘Scray this preseason, already impressing on and off the field to be voted into the five-man leadership group.

Footscray will face Brisbane in a double-header this Thursday afternoon at Marvel Stadium.
