Former Bulldogs skipper Bob Murphy will join the greats of the red, white and blue in coming weeks after being announced as a Western Bulldogs Hall of Fame inductee today.

A passionate Bulldogs man, Murphy played 312 games and kicked 183 goals for the Dogs, becoming a cult figure at Whitten Oval across his 18-year career.

Murphy captained the side for three seasons, including the year of the elusive Premiership success despite missing the Grand Final in 2016.

Murphy is one of only seven players in Bulldogs’ history to play 300 games, alongside Brad Johnson, Chris Grant, Doug Hawkins, Ted Whitten, Scott West and Rohan Smith.

The defender claimed All Australian selection in 2011 and 2015 (captain), finishing runner-up in the 2011 Charles Sutton Medal.

On field, Murphy was remembered for his composure, agility, versatility, ability to read the play and execute under pressure, and incredible skill on both sides of his body.

Equally, he is held in the highest regard for his leadership on and off the field, particularly in the latter stages of his career.

For the first time since 2018, the Western Bulldogs are set to honour their storied and celebrated history with an official Hall of Fame event in June.

Some of the Club’s greatest players and achievements will be commemorated, joining a list of the most revered players, officials and moments in the Bulldogs’ history, at a must-witness event on June 10.

Established in 2010, the Footscray-Western Bulldogs Hall of Fame honours those whose involvement and contribution to the Club has been significant, memorable and worthy of celebration.

Murphy will become the 23rd member of the Western Bulldogs Hall of Fame, joining the likes of Brad Johnson (2014), Tony Liberatore (2010), Rohan Smith (2014) and Scott West (2012) as recent inductees.
