The Western Bulldogs secured a thrilling victory against Essendon by the narrowest of margins, prevailing by just two points in an electrifying match at Mission Whitten Oval on Saturday morning.

The exhilarating 4.4 (28) to 3.8 (26) win marked the Bulldogs’ first triumph of the season on their home turf.

The game kicked off with Essendon making an impressive start, taking a narrow three-point lead after the first quarter.

However, the Bulldogs quickly found their rhythm, spurred on by a superb goal from Imogen Milford, who showcased her talent in the red, white, and blue for the first time.

This ignited a surge of momentum for the Bulldogs, with Renee Saulitis adding another goal to the Dogs’ tally before halftime to put them ahead.

After the break, the Bulldogs continued to assert their dominance with a goal from Sarah Skinner further extending their lead.

The Bombers launched a spirited comeback, gradually closing the gap and as the game entered the final quarter, the Bulldogs found themselves clinging to a narrow one-point lead, with the outcome hanging in the balance.

In the tense final moments of the game, it was a true test of nerves as both teams fought tooth and nail for supremacy.

Despite Essendon's relentless pressure, the Bulldogs held firm, displaying resilience and determination until the final siren sounded, securing the hard-fought victory.

Standout performers included Milford, whose impactful goal set the tone for the team's resurgence, while Dominique Carbone was another, leading the team tally with 24 disposals and five clearances.

Keeley Hardingham's unwavering commitment to defence saw her finish with 17 hit outs and five tackles.

With this winning momentum behind them, the VFLW Bulldogs will look to build on this success when they take on Williamstown on Saturday 20 April.
