Have you been called up to be a Sports Trainer, or wish to apply your first aid skills on the field?

The Level 1 Sports Trainers course with Western Bulldogs is officially launching — and it's the first of its kind being co-delivered with Sports Medicine Australia.

Hosted at Mission Whitten Oval on Saturday 21 June, this full-day course will provide what you need to confidently manage athlete injuries on game-days or in the sport of your choice.

To elevate your learning experience and provide invaluable practical sessions, two Masterclasses have been added to the course, with Bulldogs Head of Medical Services Chris Bell sharing his tips, tricks and industry knowledge.

This hands-on course is the ideal entry point for anyone keen to build practical skills in athlete care, on-field injury management and/or sports safety.

The successful completion of the Level 1 Sports Trainer course provides an opportunity for participants to become a Sports Medicine Australia (SMA) Accredited Sports Trainer. This is the standard requirement to perform the duties of a Sports Trainer in most major Australian sporting codes.

Led by industry experts from SMA with years of frontline experience in professional sport, you’ll learn how to:

  • Respond to common athlete injuries
  • Apply basic sports taping techniques
  • Support athlete recovery and performance
  • Understand your role in the team as a trusted support professional

You’ll also be treated to a behind-the-scenes tour of the state-of-the-art VU High Performance Centre — home to the Western Bulldogs' elite teams – to see how professional sports environments operate, including medical support services and what it takes to nurture high-performing athletes.

Whether you’re studying exercise science, physiotherapy or sports coaching, or just passionate about sport and fitness, this course is the perfect way to boost your resumé, build confidence and take a step closer to a career in sport.
