Emerging Western Bulldogs midfielder Joel Freijah has extended his time in the red, white and blue.

The 20-year-old, who had a year to run on his existing contract, will now remain at the Kennel until at least the end of the 2029 season.

Freijah has enjoyed a blistering start to his AFL career, playing 36 games since his debut in Round 10 of the 2024 season.

The composed and hard-running midfielder did not miss a match in 2025, averaging 19 disposals, 2.8 clearances and 2.7 tackles while hitting the scoreboard on 12 occasions.

“It’s obviously awesome to extend to the end of 2029, the main reason being just the love I have for the Club,” Freijah said.

“They gave me the opportunity and took a chance on me at Pick 45 back in 2023, and I’ll forever be in debt to the Club for that. I love being around the boys here and playing for the Western Bulldogs.

“I want to be a one-club player for life. I want to bring success and a premiership to this Club.

“(We have) a great bunch of boys and a lot of talent throughout the group…I’m excited for what’s ahead.”

Executive Manager Men’s Football Sam Power said he was pleased to secure Freijah’s services.

“We’re really excited to have Joel remain with us into the future,” Power said.

“His first two seasons inside our four walls have been extremely impressive, showing a fantastic ability to impact games and play any role for the team.

“From a professional standpoint, Joel has displayed great capability as a young leader and provides the perfect example for elite preparation on and off the field.

“As a pillar of our future and a favourite amongst our fans, we’re looking forward to what Joel can produce heading into the next four seasons.”

Freijah joins Rhylee West in signing on for the Dogs beyond 2026 this week.
