The Western Bulldogs have selected Amaia Wain from the Sydney Swans Academy with Pick 4 in the 2026 AFLW pre-season draft.
Wain is a ruck with unique attributes and an impressive vertical leap.
Her endurance and versatility means she can also cover the wing, forward, or even half-back where she can use her leap to intercept.
Wain enjoyed a breakout season for the UNSW-ES Bulldogs in the AFL Sydney Women's Premier Division this year and did not look out of place against senior opponents.
She also has a background in high jump and sprinting.
Here’s how Rookie Me described her:
“A long-term prospective tall, Wain brings a lot of unique attributes to the game and is a player who will benefit from greater exposure going forward. Her vertical leap is off the charts, having impressed as a junior athletics talent through her teenage years, and that, combined with her endurance makes her a potential 'unicorn'. Wain has played for the Sydney Swans Academy and UNSW-ES Bulldogs, with her ability to get first hands to it at ruck stoppages very impressive, while also having even played other roles outside the ruck in the past.”
