Last year’s VFL Grand Finalists Footscray and the Box Hill Hawks will go head-to-head Saturday week at Victoria University Whitten Oval, with the reigning premiers set to unfurl their premiership flag prior to the first bounce in the season opening clash.

After VFL football made its historic return to VU Whitten Oval last year, next Saturday’s match will be the first of nine home VFL home games to be played at the Kennel.

Recently announced Footscray Bulldogs number one ticket holder Scott West will be on hand for the season opening clash, with an afternoon of fun family activities planned.

Club mascot Woofer will be on hand, you can have your photo taken with the 2014 VFL Premiership Cup, while there will be a FanZone of kids activities, face painting and giveaways to keep the youngest members of the Bulldogs faithful entertained pre-match.

Seven-time Bulldogs best and fairest West said that he hopes to see the red, white and blue pack come out in force next Saturday, carrying on the vocal support of the Footscray side from last year’s VFL Grand Final.

“To see so many red, white and blue colours and flags (at the VFL Grand Final), and see all the kids wearing all the jumpers, it gave me a great sense of pride when the Bulldogs chant went up,” West said.

“Moving forward this year for the VFL team especially, I think they’ll get great support hear.”

With the AFL side bound for Launceston to pay the Hawks on Sunday afternoon, Saturday’s VFL fixture will be your only chance to watch the red, white and blue live next weekend.

Tickets for next Saturday’s season opening VFL clash will be available on the gate at VU Whitten Oval, or fans can purchase the newly introduced Footscray Bulldogs membership to gain admission to all home matches at the Kennel in 2015.

“I’d like every Bulldog supporter who is not going to Launceston to be at the Whitten Oval next Saturday. Make the effort,” Gordon said.

“We don’t unfurl a premiership flag at the Whitten Oval that often.

“You want to help us get to where we want to go? You want to support out young players? Please be there.

“Remember, we’re a not-for-profit Club. We’re re-signing our players, financing our VFL team – all to get better.

“Everytime you come to a Footscray game; every VFL membership that gets bought – it’s resourcing your club to get better.

“As we continue to invest into infrastructure at VU Whitten Oval – such as new change room facilities, scoreboard and lights – revenue gained from VFL membership and gate entry are going to be critical to the young group’s development.”

In addition to providing access to all VFL home games at VU Whitten Oval, Footscray Bulldogs membership provides half-price entry to all Footscray Bulldogs away games; an exclusive Footscray Bulldogs membership pack, including a heritage membership card and key ring; as well as weekly e-newsletters from the Club with the latest breaking news, behind the scenes access and club information.

First bounce for the VFL season opening match between the Footscray Bulldogs and the Box Hill Hawks will be 12:00pm, with the unfurling of the 2014 VFL Premiership flag to be conducted prior to the first bounce.
