Duryea and Suckling sidelined

Medical Room | Latest on Duryea, Suckling and more Chris Bell gives the medical room update on Taylor Duryea, Matthew Suckling, Buku Khamis, Laitham Vandermeer and Ben Cavarra.

Western Bulldogs defender Taylor Duryea will be sidelined for the next 6-8 weeks, following an injury to his hip joint.

Duryea was ruled out of Sunday’s match against Carlton.

The Club’s medical services manager Chris Bell said that although Duryea will avoid surgery, a longer recovery time is necessary to allow the bone to completely heal.

“During the third quarter in the round four game against Collingwood, Taylor Duryea went to suddenly stop and has jammed his hip into hyperflexion,” Bell told

“This has caused damage to the bone of the back part of his hip joint.

“We will manage Taylor without surgery, but we do need to allow 6-8 weeks for the bone to heal.”

Scans have also confirmed Matt Suckling will miss the next 2-4 weeks of football, after suffering a groin injury during a training session last week.

“During training last week, Matt Suckling went to rocket one of his notorious kicks around the corner,” Bell said.

“He did have a grab in his adductor groin muscle, and scans have confirmed that this is a moderate grade injury and we expect him to return in 2-4 weeks.”

After a VFL bye last weekend, the Footscray Bulldogs look likely to add further depth to their side as Buku Khamis and Laitham Vandermeer make their return.

Emerging forward Ben Cavarra also looks likely to face his old side this Sunday afternoon at Point Gellibrand Oval.

“Ben Cavarra still needs to tick a couple of boxes, but he’ll make his return either this week or next weekend,” Bell said.
