What they said: Round 8

Post Match | Beveridge Press Conference (Rd8) Watch Senior Coach Luke Beveridge speak to the media at Mars Stadium, reviewing his side's 16-point win over the Brisbane Lions.

There was plenty of commentary about the Western Bulldogs in the media after their win on Saturday afternoon at Mars Stadium.

Here’s some of what was said…

On the stroke of half-time, Naughton marked the ball and kicked truly – making his mark on the game and handing his side the lead. Then, he made the second half his own. The young tall started to mark the ball at will as he worked his way up the ground in the third term, racking up nine touches and a goal in that quarter alone. – Fox Footy journalist Anna Harrington

"Over the last couple of weeks, we feel like when we take it forward, we can score. The lads are complementing each other with the patterns they're running, and we've got a pretty open forward line. It seems to be working OK." – Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge

“It was an old-fashioned team effort with some obvious cream rising to the top when it mattered including superstar Marcus Bontempelli and new hero Aaron Naughton. Naughton was unsighted in the opening half but turned the game in the third quarter while Bontempelli’s cleanness on a dirty day continually shone out.” – Herald Sun journalist Scott Gullan

“I think most games – it’s the old cliché – are generally won and lost in the middle. After half time I think our mids got on top and got the ball forward and we converted it to goals. I think we catered for those quick kicks off the deck in the wet, so I think it was a great team effort all round.” – Western Bulldogs forward Sam Lloyd

I think we were able to kick some really crucial set shots, so it obviously helps when you’re kicking goals. Probably through that first and second quarter it was a bit of a seesaw battle, and they got on top for a little patch and we were able to fight back and get the lead at half time. Coming into the third quarter we really put our foot down which was terrific. – Western Bulldogs defender Jackson Trengove
