Emerging stars Caleb Daniel and Josh Dunkley have re-signed with the Western Bulldogs until the end of 2022.

The 22-year-olds were set to come out of contract at the end of the season, however both have recommitted to the red, white and blue for a further three years.

Both Daniel and Dunkley have established themselves as key contributors at AFL level.

General Manager of List and Recruiting, Sam Power, said they would be important long-term players for the Bulldogs.

“Caleb and Josh have both shown their ability to perform consistently at AFL level, and we are delighted to have them locked in for three more years,” Power said.

“We are confident they will be successful, long-term players for the Bulldogs, and these re-signings reflect their confidence in our direction as a Club.”

Daniel has played 86 AFL games since joining the Bulldogs with pick 46 in the 2014 NAB AFL Draft.

He made the transition to defence late last season and has been of the Club’s most consistent players in 2019, averaging 27.6 disposals playing on a half-back flank.

“Over the past two years, Caleb has finished top-five in our best and fairest, highlighting his ability to perform consistently across matches and seasons,” Power said.

“His ball use and decision-making from the back half provides plenty of impact, and he is having an outstanding season.

“Caleb is composed under pressure and a real competitor – traits which we value really highly.”

Dunkley was recruited by the Bulldogs with pick 25 in the 2015 NAB AFL Draft, and has played 55 AFL matches.

In his past six matches, he has averaged 32.5 disposals and almost seven tackles – including two 10-vote performances in the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year award voting, in wins against Brisbane and Carlton.

“Josh finished the 2018 season in strong fashion, and he has taken his game to a new level this year,” Power said.

“He is an emerging leader within our group, and someone who is selfless in his approach on-field.

“We have seen Josh become a really reliable performer week-to-week, with his hardness around the contest and ability to find the ball consistently making him an important part of our midfield mix.”

Daniel and Dunkley join the likes of Lachie Hunter, Aaron Naughton, Tom Liberatore and Pat Lipinski in re-committing to the Bulldogs for multiple years in 2019.
