The ‘Scray are set to take on the Williamstown Seagulls this Saturday in a qualifying final at Victoria University Whitten Oval.

Both teams will be looking for a straight advance to a preliminary final, but which team will prevail? westernbulldogs.com.au previews this week’s clash.

THE LAST TIME THEY MET:

Round 4, 2019:

On a windy day in Williamstown, the ‘Scray took the lead early in the match, but an inability to convert on the scoreboard saw the Dogs struggle after the first break, gifting the home-side with the 16-point victory.
AFL-listed forward Ben Cavarra played in the midfield and backline in his first game back from injury, while Fletcher Roberts and Buku Khamis enjoyed a solid performance in defence.

Since then, the ‘Scray have won their last eight matches of the season and will be looking to continue their winning momentum into the finals.

Williamstown finished the home and away season with thirteen wins, claiming seven in-a-row before conceding to Werribee in the final round. They’ll be looking to jump back on the winners’ list to secure their place in a preliminary final.

KEY MATCH UP:

All eyes will be set on ex-seagull Ben Cavarra this weekend as he faces his old VFL side at his new home.

Booting 19 goals across 11 appearances and averaging 2.7 tackles per game, Cavarra has enjoyed a consistent end to the 2019 season after returning from injury in Round 18.

Named at half-forward, Cavarra will likely be met by emerging Williamstown defender, Billy Myers.  Averaging 2.8 tackles and 2.8 marks over 17 appearances, Myers has enjoyed a solid 2019 season for the Seagulls.

Playing two seasons together at Williamstown, both Cavarra and Myers have sufficient VFL finals experience, which will make for an exciting match up, come Saturday afternoon.
