On Tim English...
“We haven’t got an update for you today, so we’ll wait and see how he goes over the next week and what his availability will be.
“I think because of his history, he’s been out of action at different times. He spent a whole pre-season a couple of years ago in non-contact, so we’ll tread warily.”
On Carlton and Michael Voss’ departure...
“It’s always sad when a coach finishes up and in those circumstances. I think he’s been unbelievably stoic and as a man representing his football club, his family, his friends – he's been extremely resilient. I’ve admired the way he’s gone about it.
“I did send him a message – I waited a few days because I imagine he would have been inundated. I just wished him all the best – I know his next move, whether it’s in footy or elsewhere, will be extremely rewarding for him.
“It’s rare that a team that has a changing of the guard gets beaten really emphatically. You don’t see that.
“Even if you (look at) our game against Melbourne last year after (Simon Goodwin) finished up, we won but it was a real struggle.
“I don’t think there’s a lot of difference between the two teams anyway. When you think about Carlton, it’s been really publicised their drop-offs in second-halves.
“Obviously last week was the antithesis of that, with them starting not as well as they had and finishing off strong, but ultimately they haven’t been beaten by much.
“The ingredients and the essence of their team, there’s still a strength there, there’s still a capability there, and obviously the win-loss is told in the end but we’re playing a team that’s similar to us.
“Ultimately it’s just another example where you have to be on your toes against anyone, and we’ll definitely be on ours against the Blues on Saturday.”
On Tom Liberatore...
“He’ll be a while. He’s probably going to re-enter group training over the course of the next two or three weeks, but he’s a fair way away with that knee.
“I think concussion is secondary at the moment. We’re not really talking about it – we're talking more about the knee, so he’ll have some tests along the way around the concussion but I think it’s mainly the knee at the moment.”
On Adam Treloar...
“He’s been such an important contributor for our football club.
“The plan is for him to play. He’s been training and will play at state-league level.
“I’m not a coach who talks about running parameters and you can tell by the naked eye that Adam has still got the gift of winning contested ball.
“He’s still creative, he’s still a fierce competitor – when the ball gets out into space, he’s trying to find the legs that he had when he’s been at his best to contribute in the main phases, and he’s just been a bit off that.
“We’ll see how he goes."
On Marcus Bontempelli...
“It’s been encouraging that it seems like he’s playing and then improving as far as getting over those injuries each week, so it seems like he’s better again this week.
“He’ll train today and we’ll probably look after him a bit, but he’ll definitely be playing Saturday.”
