The Footscray Bulldogs have fallen to Frankston by 13 points, going down 7.16 (58) to 10.11 (71) on a cold and windy Sunday afternoon at Mission Whitten Oval.
The visiting Dolphins started strong, controlling the opening quarter and applying consistent pressure around the contest.
Both sides struggled to convert in front of goal, but a late major kept Footscray within reach despite Frankston's robust defensive efforts.
The Bulldogs lifted early in the second term, generating repeat inside 50 entries and building momentum. However, they were unable to make the most of their opportunities on the scoreboard as the visitors responded late to take a narrow advantage into the main break.
With much of the contest played through the midfield, neither side gave an inch around the ball.
Footscray found another gear in the third quarter, winning territory and making better use of its chances to edge in front heading into the final change.
The Dolphins responded when it mattered most, dominating the final quarter to regain control of the contest and claim the four points.
Adam Treloar ended up on top of the ‘Scray’s stats with 37 disposals and five score involvements.
Riley Garcia was a welcome presence in his first match back from injury, amassing 31 disposals and ten inside-50s, while Jack Billings finished with 24 disposals and a goal.
Footscray will be on the road next week, up against the Gold Coast SUNS at People First Stadium on Sunday morning.
