On the improvements from last week:

“We’re obviously looking to continue to develop our method and style for what we learned pre-season.

“Last week was a really good hit-out for all the players – we had 29 playing – so it was great for us to get a look at everyone.

“This week was more about our contest method and continuing to develop the style that we’ve trained. There was obviously a level of competitiveness we wanted to see this week as well.

On the main focus of today’s match sim:

“Pressure and spacing was really important for us around the contest.

“Players are continuing to work their way into the season as well – we obviously have four practice matches and this is our second, so we’re hoping that we’ll continue to see more improvements.

“Today was just another stepping stone to where we want to get to.”

On Mikala Cann and other standouts:

“I think the coaching box is sick of me saying ‘look at Mikala’ - it was like talking about Messi for Argentina last week.

“Mikala brings a whole lot of effort, which might seem like it’s a given, it’s not at any level or in any sport.

“Her ability to read the play and early triggers is really, I think, quite special in this competition, and she continues to work hard on and off the field which is important.

“I think fundamentally I thought Fitzy was really strong, but I thought it was a great effort (from everyone). The backs defended really well today, the mids competed really well and the forwards were quite clinical.

"It was a good effort from everyone today.”
