Western Bulldogs defender Bailey Williams hopes Sunday’s win over Gold Coast is the start of some momentum in the run home. 

Despite a late charge from the hosts, a five-goal-to-one third term ultimately set up the Dogs’ victory at People First Stadium. 

Williams, who finished with a team-high 29 disposals, eight marks and 776 metres gained, said he was proud of the team’s resilience and composure. 

“It was probably a bit scrappy at the start and we probably didn’t have it on our terms for the whole game, but we played four quarters and managed to get four points,” he said post-game.

“We wanted to come out at half-time and really set the tone early, so it was good to break away and kick a few in the third.

“I thought our backs did really well to stay composed – even though (the Suns) had a lot of inside 50s, I felt like we held up pretty well down there.”

The win keeps the Bulldogs in seventh on the ladder, with Richmond, Fremantle and North Melbourne to come in the next block of games. 

“We’ll rest and recover – hopefully we can build some momentum off this one heading into the end of the year and see how we go,” he added. 

Saturday’s clash with Richmond will also celebrate Cultural Heritage Round, coming together to celebrate the rich and diverse cultural heritage of both Australian football and the West.
