Beloved Bulldogs midfielder Tom Liberatore was full of praise for the team's 57-point win over Richmond on Saturday night.

Speaking on ABC Sport with Matt Clinch and Cameron Ling on Sunday, Liberatore said the win over Richmond required them to stay focused and shift with the momentum of the game. 

“I think the diligence around just playing to the line and adjusting to the pressure, we had to respond a few times to a momentum change, then just making sure we finish off on the score board by the end of the game,” Liberatore said.

“We made a concerted effort to stay connected and we’ve got such a good range of ages now with younger boys.

“I think we’ve made sure that (staying connected) is the key focus from a training point of view and we make sure that carries into the game.”

With the addition of many younger boys in the side, including Michael Sellwood, Joel Freijah and Ryley Sanders to name a few, Liberatore said he has done his best to relate to and help out the youth around him.

“I’m always keen to help the younger guys,” Liberatore said.

“I can help with the younger guys and sort of talk them through…they kind of scratch their heads a bit after Bevo’s speeches, but I think it's a good mix (of experience and youth).

“I still listen to the young doof doof stuff, electronic music, different shades of that - I've still got that in me from my younger days so I can resonate with the younger boys in that regard.”

The win over Richmond marked Liberatore’s eighth game of the season, with an eight-week stint on the sidelines coming between Round 6 and Round 15.

Reflecting on his time away from the game, he said a short-term focus was the best approach. 

“I just kept it very focused and short-sighted. I think the main thing is not to look too far [ahead]...lean on family and friends, that's the main thing…don't let it faze you too much,” he said.

“So I think take everything with a grain of salt, just keep it short sighted and just stay supportive and probably get out of your own bubble…just engaging and getting out of your own head.”

Liberatore also spoke on his playing future, and his hopes for continuing his role - whatever that may look like - within the side. 

“Learning about the younger guys too and how they can play different roles…and for myself just understanding how I can even play different roles too and go forward or go back if I need to so that's probably what I've learnt,” he said.

“This year has been a bit interrupted so probably not the best gauge on my longevity, so I feel like if I can get a bit of luck and stay that would be great.”
