Western Bulldogs midfielder Lin Jong has been ruled out of contention to play this weekend after having his appendix removed.

The 25-year-old underwent surgery this evening, after he was taken to hospital with acute abdominal pain this afternoon.

A more accurate time frame for Jong’s recovery will be known in the coming days, however it is expected he will miss several weeks.

Jong was an emergency for Sunday’s round five AFL clash with Carlton, having successfully returned a week prior from the hamstring injury which interrupted his pre-season.
