Western Bulldogs midfielder Jack Macrae is one of 40 players named in the 2018 Virgin All Australian squad, announced by the AFL on Monday morning.

The 24-year-old has enjoyed an outstanding 2018 season, averaging 32.8 disposals per game and leading the Dogs’ contested possessions and clearances.

Despite missing three games due to a hamstring injury, the prolific ball winner is ranked ninth in the AFL in total handballs and total disposals.

He was also ranked second for total marks and third for tackles within the Club.

Macrae has never previously been named in the All Australian squad and has received 30 Brownlow votes since his debut in 2013.

Every team except St Kilda and Gold Coast has been represented, with the Richmond Tigers leading the way with eight players named.

The final team of 22 will be named on Wednesday evening.

The All Australian squad has been selected by Gillon McLachlan (chairman), Kevin Bartlett, Luke Darcy, Danny Frawley, Steve Hocking, Glen Jakovich, Chris Johnson, Cameron Ling, Matthew Richardson and Warren Tredrea.
