Midfielder and 2013 All-Australian nominee Ryan Griffen has capped off an outstanding season by winning his second Charles Sutton Medal as the Club’s best and fairest player at Crown Palladium tonight.

Griffen took his game to another level in 2013, averaging 29 disposals per game and featuring in the league’s top ten in clearances and inside 50’s.

The 27-year-old amassed 30 possessions or more in eleven games this season and also emerged as a genuine leader, in the absence of captain Matthew Boyd who missed nine games with injury.

Fellow midfielder Tom Liberatore staked his claim for the competition’s most improved player with a brilliant season, where the 21-year-old led the AFL in clearances, finished second in contested possessions and fourth for total tackles.

In just his third year of football, Liberatore emerged as the AFL’s best inside player and shared a crucial partnership with All-Australian nominee Will Minson as the preeminent ruck/midfield combination. — Minson’s dominance in the ruck also ensuring a top three finish for the 28-year-old.

Minson ended the season as the AFL’s number one ruckman, leading the competition in hitouts with a whopping 860 for the season and only 18 shy of the all-time record set by Gary Dempsey back in 1982.

Evergreen duo Robert Murphy and Dale Morris placed fourth and fifth respectively, while youngsters Luke Dahlhaus, Jordan Roughead and Mitch Wallis featured in the top ten.
