The Bulldogs will get their first taste of the 2020 AFLW competition in a match simulation session against expansion club Richmond at Punt Road on Saturday afternoon.

Bonnie Toogood, Hannah Scott and Hannah Munyard are unavailable, while recruit Ash Guest will sit out with a leg injury, with the hit-out expected to be a good test for the group ahead of the season opener in three weeks.

“We haven’t come up against anyone yet, so it’ll be nice to see how we’re tracking against an opposition,” General Manager of Women’s Football, Debbie Lee, said.

“It will also be a great opportunity for our new recruits and international players to see how they go.”

With five quarters running at 12 minutes each, Lee also expects to see the pre-season learnings applied.

“For us, it’s really about putting our game style into practice, seeing how different players go in different positions, and giving our girls the opportunity for a solid hit-out and the freedom to just play footy,” Lee said

“It will be great preparation coming up to our round 1 clash.”

The AFLW Bulldogs will kick off their 2020 campaign against St Kilda at RSEA Park, Moorabin on Sunday, February 9.
