It’s taken one week for Bob Murphy and Adrian Brown’s podcast, Freedom in a Cage, to do something no other football-themed podcast has ever done: get mentioned in a post-match press conference.

Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge was addressing the media in Canberra following his side’s Round 1 loss to the Giants, when the question came from the right of screen for those watching at home.

“I heard you on Bob’s podcast this week talking about the uncertainty coming into a new season…”, the nameless journalist asked the coach.

The humble hosts of ‘Freedom in a Cage’, where taken aback by their new found profile, to say the least.

“This is a pretty cool podcast,” Murphy said on this week’s show, to be released on Thursday.  “But I think in the space of one week we went from being this indie, sort of, underground podcast and already after one week we’ve crossed over into the mainstream.”

There was one issue that has created some tension in the Cage since Sunday, though.  Why was one host name-checked and not the other?

“(He) didn’t get it factually correct, though did he,? co-host Adrian Brown asked.  “There was some big facts missing out of that podcast mention.”
