The AFL’s ladder predictor presents a range of possibilities with two rounds to go.

Among them is the chance for the Western Bulldogs to break into the top eight and play finals football, provided they can overcome Hawthorn and Fremantle over the next fortnight.

But for Western Bulldogs leader Jason Johannisen, the focus is crystal clear.

That focus this week is firmly on the Hawks and how to beat them. Nothing else.

“We’ve just got to focus on this week and control what we can control – that’s to win this week,” Johannisen told media on the Gold Coast today.

“(A finals berth) is 100 per cent up for grabs. But we’re just going to do exactly what we did last week – we had full focus on winning the game against the Eagles, and we’ll have that focus again against the Hawks and then worry about the week later.”

It’s been an up and down season for the Bulldogs, who sit in ninth spot with an 8-7 record.

But over the past four weeks they’ve been building, with wins against West Coast, Melbourne and Adelaide, and a narrow loss to Geelong.

Johannisen believes the confidence within the squad is growing as they push for finals.

“Against the top sides we’ve played some good footy, but just probably hadn’t put that four-quarter effort in,” Johannisen said.

“We had to really grind it out against the Eagles. It’s going to give the team a lot of belief and hopefully we can build on that momentum.

“With this group, we just have to get in and who knows what can happen.

“If we put that four-quarter effort in, we know we can beat anyone – it’s just about doing it.”
