A bag of three goals each from Josh Schache and Ben Cavarra helped the Footscray Bulldogs record a comfortable practice match win over Box Hill at VU Whitten Oval on Wednesday afternoon.

Schache and Cavarra were two of 14 AFL-listed players to get a run in the Bulldogs’ reserves scratch match, with the ‘Scray finishing on top 18.9 (117) to 11.11 (77).

Small forward Cody Weightman and number one draft pick Jamarra Ugle-Hagan both added two majors of their own, while draftee Dominic Bedendo (one goal) found his feet throughout the game.

A six-goal-to-one opening term is what ultimately proved the difference, with the Hawks forced to play catch-up after quarter-time.

AFL Bulldogs Lewis Young and Taylor Duryea looked dangerous in defence, while Ed Richards provided speed in the middle.

VFL-listed players Tate Short, Lachie Sullivan and Austin Hodge contributed on the scoreboard too.

The VFL and East Coast Second-Tier Competition is scheduled to begin in April.

The hit-out was one of two practice matches closed to the public, but live-streamed exclusively for members.
