Emerging defender Eleanor Brown had one of the toughest tasks in footy on Sunday – guarding Adelaide Crows star Erin Phillips.

The round eight battle against the Crows didn’t go the way of the Dogs and their finals aspirations, but playing on Phillips is something Brown says she will learn from.

“It’s a bit disappointing obviously – we came in wanting to get the win to get ourselves into finals so I think everyone’s a bit flat at the moment knowing that finals is out of our reach now,” Brown told westernbulldogs.com.au post-match.

“(Erin) is a pretty tough opponent – I am a bit disappointed individually that I couldn’t do a bit more, but it’ll be a good learning experience.

Brown has been one of the team’s most improved players this season, averaging 11.4 disposals,  4.4 marks and six tackles from the past five games.

“Burkey’s been a big help for me (and my development) this season,” the 21-year-old said.

“He’s put a lot of time into all of us girls so I guess that’s been helpful.”

The Bulldogs will launch the final round of the 2021 AFLW home-and-away season at VU Whitten Oval on Friday night against Richmond.

After being on the road for three consecutive games, the Bulldogs are itching to get back on their home ground.

Brown said it couldn’t come quicker.

“We’re really looking forward to being back at Whitten – we love playing at home so hopefully can finish off the season with a good win,” she said.

“We love it – it’s crazy. The atmosphere at Whitten is just the best by far.”

The Bulldogs and Tigers will kick off round nine at 5.10pm on Friday 26 March.
