It was the feel good moment of last night’s win in Cairns; Tom Boyd’s 50-metre roust to open the third quarter, followed by a mobbing from a throng of delighted teammates.

“That was great, that was fantastic,” coach Luke Beveridge said to a gathered media pack post match.

“As I said earlier in the week, it was up to the players when Tom comes into the side and they were all ready to embrace him and that was a prime example of the spirit.”

The 20-year-old Boyd spent time forward where he kicked 1.1 to go along with nine score involvements, and was regularly seen hunting his own ball and farming it out to running teammates.

He also shared ruck duties with Jordan Roughead, a combination Beveridge was pleased with on the night.

“He was really productive at times,” Tommy.

“You’ve got to remember he hasn’t played at the level for a fair while, so we were happy with the way he and Roughy worked together.”

Marcus Bontempelli echoed his coaches’ words when speaking to Fox Footy on the ground following the Dogs’ 48-point win over the Suns.

“He was impressive, Tommy,” Bontemepelli told Ben Dixon.

“We just wanted him to come up here and give us his best really, show us a contest.

“He certainly did that today, it’s full credit to him.”
