Western Bulldogs captain Marcus Bontempelli has caught the eyes of coaches Luke Beveridge and Justin Longmuir, earning the maximum 10 votes for his starring performance in Sunday’s 28-point win over Fremantle.

It is the fourth time this season he has polled a perfect 10, registering 27 disposals, seven clearances, 12 score involvements, 595 metres gained and two long-range goals in the Bulldogs’ inaugural win at Optus Stadium.

His ‘perfect 10’ also saw him maintain second place on the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year leaderboard after 12 rounds, and draw to within eight votes of Melbourne’s Clayton Oliver.

Bontempelli is the only player this season to have recorded at least 25 disposals, two goals and 500 metres gained on five separate occasions.

He is also one of only four players in the league (alongside three key forwards) to have kicked four or more goals from outside the 50-metre arc in 2021.

High-flyer Aaron Naughton received eight votes for his 19-disposal, 13-mark display – one of which also saw him earn his third Mark of the Year nomination this season.

Clearance king Tom Liberatore and ball-magnet Jack Macrae both polled three votes each.
