Western Bulldogs captain Marcus Bontempelli has moved into top spot on the 2021 AFLCA Champion Player of the Year leaderboard.

A 31-disposal, 10-clearance and two-goal performance in the 20-point win over Melbourne saw Bontempelli earn nine votes from coaches Luke Beveridge and Simon Goodwin.

The star midfielder is now two votes clear of second-placed Dee Clayton Oliver, who received seven votes on the night.

Caleb Daniel was recognised as second-best, earning eight votes for his 34 touches, nine intercepts and five clearances.

Jack Macrae (three votes), Lachie Hunter (two votes) and Bailey Smith (one vote) also polled for the Bulldogs.
