The Footscray Bulldogs have pulled off a thrilling 37-point win over the Casey Demons on Saturday afternoon, claiming their tenth consecutive victory in their first game back after the VFL hiatus.

Despite conceding the first six goals and remaining goalless after the first term, it was the Bulldogs who dominated after quarter-time to storm home 16.10 (106) to 10.9 (69) at Casey Fields.

Trailing by as much as 46 points early in the second term, it wasn’t until the ninth minute of the quarter that Robbie McComb (31 disposals, seven clearances, one goal) planted the ‘Scray on the scoreboard for the first time.

That goal was the first of what would be seven unanswered Bulldog goals, cutting the deficit back to just a single point midway through the third term.

Kicking with or against the breeze no longer mattered, as the red, white and blue went on to boot 16 goals to four, completing the 83-point turnaround to retain their undefeated streak and reclaim top spot on the ladder.

Influential in the midfield, Rhylee West finished the day with 27 disposals, seven tackles, seven clearances and three goals, while Ben Cavarra (21 disposals, six tackles, three goals) was impactful up forward.

Skipper Lachie Sullivan (24 disposals, five tackles, six clearances) led from the middle alongside Will Hayes (31 disposals), who again found plenty of the footy.

Mitch Wallis (16 disposals, four tackles, seven clearances) played extra midfield minutes to kick start the fight-back - his experience and composure crucial after the first-term Demon blitz.

Jordon Sweet (49 hit outs, four clearances, six tackles) provided the opportunities to his ground ball cohort, with Lachie McNeil adding a spectacular contested mark to his highlight reel.

Laitham Vandermeer (16 disposals, five tackles and a goal) was also impressive in his first game back from injury.

To cap off a courageous comeback, debutant Cooper Craig-Peters perfectly executed his set shot to kick his first goal in the red, white and blue to seal the 37-point victory.

Footscray will next look to take on the Gold Coast Suns in their rescheduled round 17 match, with details to be confirmed due to the current Queensland lockdown.
