Toogood takes home second consecutive Community Award

Western Bulldogs forward Bonnie Toogood takes home the Club Community Award at the 2022 AFLW Best and Fairest.

Western Bulldogs forward Bonnie Toogood has complimented a stellar on-field season by taking home the Club Community Award at the 2022 AFLW Best and Fairest on Friday night.

For the second year running, Toogood was rewarded for her body of off-field work, with the Community Foundation ambassador a regular contributor to the Foundation’s various programs, mentor to participants in the Daughters of the West program, and guest speaker at events such as the recent International Women’s Day morning tea.

Accepting the award, Toogood spoke of her love of the work she does with the Foundation and the impact it has on her.

“The work is really rewarding, you get to talk with people and connect with people - that’s why I love it the most,” she said.

“Whether it’s just a conversation to support someone or ask about their day, it actually means a lot to the participants and the people involved.

“I love that the Community Foundation has these programs where people feel connected and accepted and it’s a really great thing to be a part of.”

Kashif Bouns, General Manager – Community and Government Relations at the Western Bulldogs, spoke of Toogood’s willingness to always be involved.

“One of (Bonnie’s) hallmarks is whenever we call, you’re always there - even if it’s a last-minute cancellation if someone else can’t make it,” Bouns said.

“Especially in the COVID-19 years when people need to pull out last minute, Bonnie always put her hand up.”

Alongside the Community Award, Toogood was recognised as the club’s leading goalkicker for season 2022, booting 10 majors, and came fourth in the Best and Fairest count with 57 votes.
