Jamarra Ugle-Hagan has been named the NAB AFL Rising Star nominee for round 19.

The 20-year-old key forward played a starring role in the Bulldogs’ comeback win over Melbourne, kicking the sealer from long range to help his side record a memorable 10-point victory.

That goal was his third of the quarter and fifth of the night- a career-best output to go with 10 disposals, six marks, five inside 50s and five score involvements.

He is the Bulldogs’ first Rising Star nominee for season 2022.

Development coach Travis Varcoe broke the news to Ugle-Hagan in front of teammates during Monday’s review meeting.

“It’s great recognition – you’ve shown some great glimpses, but the one thing I’ve really noticed is the acceptance of coming back, putting your mind to it and getting to work,” Varcoe said.

“You’re starting to build a great foundation – (I can’t wait) to see what else can pan out for you.”

Ugle-Hagan has contributed 15 goals from 12 matches this year, after making his AFL debut in round 17 last season against Sydney.

Drafted from the Oakleigh Chargers with the number one pick in 2020, the Framlingham youngster and Next Generation Academy product became the first Bulldog to top the AFL draft since Adam Cooney in 2003, and the first Indigenous player to go at pick one since Des Headland in 1998.

Ugle-Hagan played junior football with South Warrnambool.

A NAB AFL Rising Star nominee will be named following each week of football in the 2022 Toyota AFL Premiership season.

Following each week of the home and away season, a panel of judges select a NAB AFL Rising Star nominee.

At the completion of the season, one of these nominees will be chosen as the overall 2022 NAB AFL Rising Star.
