Beasley played 154 games in the red, white and blue from 1982 to 1989, bagging a Club record 575 goals which still stands to this day.

Deceptively strong in his early days, the spearhead from Swan Districts kicked 82 goals in his debut VFL season to finish runner-up to Malcolm Blight in the Coleman Medal race.

He enjoyed career-best form in 1985 – adding another 95 goals to his tally in the season regular to claim his maiden Coleman Medal, before notching up the ton with a seven-goal performance against North Melbourne in the Semi-Final.

Beasley closed out that season with a total of 105 majors, becoming only the second Bulldog behind Kelvin Templeton to reach the triple-figure achievement.

“(1985) was a great year for the club.  We were a kick or two away from the Grand Final, so got very close,” Beasley recalled at the 2010 Hall of Fame event.

“We had some great players – but the greatest player we had in the ‘80s, in my mind, was Doug Hawkins. He was just unbelievable.”

Despite his admiration for teammate Hawkins, no player kicked more goals in the VFL than Beasley during the 1980s.

Retiring in June 1989, Beasley finished as a five-time Bulldogs’ leading goalkicker, and was later named full-forward in the Footscray-Western Bulldogs Team of the Century.
