The Dogs bounced back from a Round 1 loss to record their first win of the 2025 NAB AFLW Season.
It was a second-half blitz which saw the Dogs come away with a 21-point victory against the Tigers.
Here's how head coach Tam Hyett saw the victory.
On the game and hard-fought win:
“We thought we were doing a lot right in the first half.
“I think we were able to finish off our work in the second half. It’s really good nourishment for the group.
“They’ve put in a mountain of work in the off-season and we know we’ve got a fair bit to go, but really good nourishment for them.”
On the defensive effort and response from Round 1:
“We were really disappointed last week with our tackling, and more the efficiency. We missed a lot of tackles.
“The girls are a pretty proud group.
“Our ability today to hunt the opponent was really good.”
On the forward-line dynamic:
“It’s going really well and we’ve been able to add Lou Stephenson as well, so some experience around.
“And then [Ellie Blackburn] playing that half-forward role, so I think now we’ve got that really good balance of youth and experience.
“Then also, those guys are really coming together quite well and building some good chemistry.”
On the Georgostathis match-up against Conti:
“We call her the ‘Junkyard Dog’. She’s pretty ruthless at the contest.
“We know how damaging Mon (Conti), a premier midfielder, can be around the stoppages.
“That was in our planning throughout the week and I thought she did a great job.
“Mon still had 20-odd touches but they were all under pressure; she didn’t have too many clean ones.
‘Lizzo’ did a great job.
“She doesn’t do things in halves – even at training, she’s full throttle at training.”
On Pritchard and her form in her second game back from injury:
“Based on a really, really good year last year, she’s just a really solid player for us.
“She didn’t have any practice matches, so it was really nice to see ‘Pritch’ get some reward as well.
“She had put in a mountain of work before her injury. Really good for her to come back in her second game.”
On bouncing back from Round 1 and Round 2 growth:
“There were some things that we failed to execute in Round 1, but we also came up against a bloody good side in Melbourne.
“We knew that our first half was OK. But execution-wise, we probably weren’t that clean today. I think we can still improve in that area.
“Our ability to get time in forward half and then, in the second half, being able to capitalise on that – we probably didn’t capitalise in the first half.
“There were some really good signs of maturity too late by some of the younger players, but even Alice (Edmonds) taking control in the air and slowing things down.
“I’m just pleased that, as I said, the girls have been working really hard.
“We still know we’ve got a long way to go. But some good nourishment and reward for what they’ve been doing.”
On Laloifi’s return through scrimmage:
“It was good, it was very exciting for her.
“She came out [to IKON Park] yesterday and got some minutes in.
“I was speaking to her pre-game today and she said it’s nice to have that post-game feel of a bit sore and achy.
“She got through everything really well.
“Rehab can be very lonely, so it was great to see Mua get the approval to get back into games.”
On Weston-Turner:
‘Westo’ had a bit of a setback.
“She had a concussion in training a few weeks ago, so we just need her to train hard and then she’ll be in the mix.”
