Western Bulldogs coach Tam Hyett says Saturday night’s loss to Hawthorn is one that got away.
The Bulldogs booted the first of the match and won most of the stats on the night but struggled to capitalise on their dominance.
“It’s a bit of the one that got away for us…we had a lot of green on our board apart from the final scoreboard,” Hyett told media post-match.
“We just couldn’t execute. We did a lot right but finishing off fundamentally we were pretty poor.”
Defender Elle Bennetts echoed her coach.
“I thought we had control of the game for most of it. It’s disappointing that we couldn’t come away with the win,” she said post-game.
“I thought the backline held up really well. We all played our role so it’s just disappointing that we couldn’t come away with it.
“We’ll go back to training this week and really focus on our fundamentals.
“We know our method stacks up…we’ll watch some vision of this week and take some lessons from tonight and hopefully implement them next week.”
Bennetts finished with 23 disposals and five tackles in a positive showing.
“Coming into the game (the pressure) was one of our main focuses. There were probably points in the game when they had more pressure than us, but particularly in that last quarter is how we want to play.
“Hopefully we can bring that into next week.”
The Bulldogs will look to bounce back against Carlton next Saturday afternoon at IKON Park.
