Bulldogs Player Acquisition and Strategy Manager Michael Regan says the Club continues to target players or draft picks that will improve the list with six days left of the Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period.

Speaking on AFL Trade Radio, Regan was clear that while defensive stocks is an area the Club will look to improve, it will be via a targeted and precise approach.

"With regards to key backs we'd like to get top end talent in," Regan said. "We still see upside in our group, that is a considered take.

"We have depth as well. The notion of needing to bring in another magnet, we want to dispel quickly."

Regan also said there had been "really productive opening discussions" with the Gold Coast Suns with regard to Connor Budarick, who has stated his preference to be traded to the Bulldogs.

"There's tremendous comfort that we'll find something to get Connor into the Club that satisfies both parties," Regan said.

"Truly exciting for our footy club to add a player with Connor's attributes. His ability to defend and his speed and willingness to put his body on the line for the team is something that we're really attracted to."

Regan mentioned that Ryley Sanders was a required player and wouldn’t be traded.

"Ryley (Sanders) is a super exciting 19-year-old, we rate him really highly. He is a much-loved member of the club and there's not many situations where you wouldn't see him at the club into the very long future,” he said.

Will Darcy was another talking point, with the father-son prospect continuing to develop for Scotch College and Oakleigh Chargers.

Regan described Darcy as "an exciting prospect" with "some really unique and special attributes at 198cm".

"We're working through all of our options," Regan said. “Obviously we need to make sure that we cover ourselves through the draft.

“The important part with Will is that he has a long-term focus on his career which we do too.

“Will has had less exposure to the pathways than most players and he has a lot of developing to do.

"He’s a really exciting prospect in terms of what he can do on field and a really good person off it - from a good family."
