Johannisen reveals why he approves of superhero guernsey

ANOTHER member of the Western Bulldogs' leadership group has publicly backed the club's decision to wear a superhero themed jumper for its Marvel Stadium clash against Sydney, with Jason Johannisen revealing he gave the controversial design his tick of approval.

The Bulldogs announced on Tuesday that they would wear the jumper, inspired by Marvel movie 'Thor', for the first AFL game at the newly renamed Marvel Stadium in round one.

The predominantly blue jumper features visual representations of Thor's armour and features a red back, reflecting the red cape the character wears throughout the movies.

Captain Easton Wood supported the idea earlier in the week, while Johannisen – who will miss the clash against the Swans due to an ankle injury – is also on board.

"I'm pretty upset I won't get to wear it," Johannisen told AFL.com.au.

"Hopefully the whole footy club gets at least one, so I can keep that in the cupboard."

The jumper was only given the green light after consultation with the Dogs' leadership group, with Johannisen reiterating that the reasons for the design were sensible.

"I thought it was a good idea, so I gave it the tick of approval," Johannisen said.

"The people from upstairs came to us and we wanted to do something different, being the first game at Marvel Stadium during the AFL season.

"Chris Hemsworth (the actor who plays Thor) has a connection with the Bulldogs and then also some of the proceedings will go towards charity, so we thought it was a great idea.

"It's copped a bit of backlash, but I think the kids will love it and that's what it's all about."
