With an important win under their belt, Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge acknowledged the fight shown by his team to record another victory on the road.

The gritty nine-point win over the Suns sees the Dogs move to seventh position on the ladder, just one game outside the top six.

Crediting his team's ability to get the job done, Beveridge spoke about the need to continue to show up and get the job done in the coming weeks.

On taking home the four points:

“It was a bit sketchy through that second quarter. We felt like we probably had some momentum, then we brought them back into the game with our ball use coming out of our back half.

“That fuelled a gain for them.

“To come in at half-time and settle and then have a third quarter like we did was impressive by the boys.

“That was enough in the end - it probably got a little shaky at the end. But I'm really pleased with the outcome.

“We've been reasonable on the road. We've got another one later against Fremantle in Perth.

“We've won a few important ones interstate and this is just as important as any.”

On the third-quarter blitz:

“There are a few things all year that we've been marginal at.

“One is our ball use out of our back third and giving opposition chances to score in their own territory too early.

“Tonight, we gave them 18 turnover opportunities and they kicked 4.3.

“That’s an OK performance for a team. For us, we'd like to reduce that further.

“We forced 25 turnovers in our front half and we kicked 7.5.

“We lost a lot of the outcomes statistically but they're really crucial aspects of the game that we managed to perform a little bit better than the Suns tonight through our ball use and decisions, and definitely the way we worked together off turnover - I thought there was a lot of cohesion again.

“It gave us enough to be in front at the end of the game.”

On the late changes and still getting the win:

“It’s always a challenge.

“The good thing is that we had time to prepare - it was a bit of a like-for-like exchange with the boys coming in.

“The players have been really adaptable. They play any roles that they're asked to play.

“There were probably some critical players that I don't know if they were noticed.

“Bailey Williams, in the scheme of things, was so important.

“We played a lot of players through that high half-back role and after half-time we settled it down and we just played Bailey Williams as a permanent back.

“He was just really consistent all night.

“He got in the way a lot and he just had real penetration in his game.

“That was fantastic.

“It was really nice for Matt Kennedy to play so well - mainly as a forward tonight - after the birth of his second child.

“That’s a special night for him.

“There were others who played really well; we needed them all.”

On the Rory Lobb and Tim English combination:

“Tim and Lobby in the ruck were really important.

“Obviously, that’s an area where we've come in and out of responsibility due to availability.

“I thought Tim was really solid in the turnover game with possessions but he was good around the stoppage.

“Rory, his combination and then being able to go forward and be a bit of a threat when we weren't marking that many down there.

“It was important.”

On Ed Richards:

“He’s alright, he just rolled his ankle.

“He needed a bit of treatment and just a bit of help to settle it down.

“He got stuck on the bench late and we couldn't get him on the field.

“His game time will be down a bit and that won't do him any harm.

“He should be OK.”
