A win that secures the Dogs' spot in finals.
The Bulldogs put on one of their performances of the season in near-perfect conditions at IKON Park.
A dominant first half set up what would be an impressive 30-point win over the Blues and sent the Dogs into the top four on the AFLW ladder.
Speaking following the game, senior coach Tam Hyett shared her positivity about the performance, believing it would fill the group with confidence heading into the final rounds of the AFLW season.
Here's what she had to say:
On the performance:
“Really happy with the players.
“What set it up was our first half, our ability to keep the ball in the forward half, our contest, our pressure and then our tackling.
“I think we set it up in the first half and we’re really happy to be able to sustain it after half time.”
On bringing the pressure throughout the game:
“That gives you every ability to turn it over earlier.
“The focus probably for us is, if we don’t have it, can we win it back as soon as possible. It’s an all-of-team pressure system, so to speak, and our forwards did an exceptional job in the first half and especially in the second quarter of keeping the ball in there.
“We were able to capitalise on that today.”
On the impact of Alice Edmonds:
“Huge.
“She is always really combative. She gets her hand to the ball first and that allows our mids to go to work.
“Alice has been huge for us all year, it’s just another box ticked for her today.
“She’s got to be pushing for All-Australian. I think the way she has performed really consistently throughout the year means she’s hopefully in the conversation.
“I think today won’t do her efforts any harm.”
On Emma McDonald and injury heading into the game:
“Her ability to compete.
“The sign of a really strong - and she’s only in her second year, so still learning that resilience piece - and being able to play a bit sore was really good.
“She just competes. Her aerial stuff is really good, she’s quick at ground level to follow up.
“She’s always an outlet and a target for us.
“I think she was probably always going to play.
“It’s just a new thing. As a second-year player, you’ve got to learn how to deal with potentially a little bit of soreness, which is new to some of our players.
“We didn’t really have a lot of concerns about her not playing and are just really proud of the way she showed up.”
On external noise:
“We just play for the now. It doesn’t matter where we are.
“Our eyes are always forward on how we can get better each time.
“Carlton have been really consistent probably over the last two years and that’s something we’re trying to focus on as well, that sustained performance at a consistent level that will allow you to compete with the best.
“That’s all we’re focusing on.”
On the remaining games of the season:
“It gives you validation.
“We believe that we’ve improved.
“I think today shows that we’ve improved and we want to finish the season off really strong.
“We think we’re a really good chance against anyone that we come up against.”
