Western Bulldogs defender Lauren Ahrens has retired.
Ahrens arrived at the Kennel during the 2023 trade period from the Gold Coast SUNS, playing 21 games across three seasons in red, white and blue.
She retires with 68 games to her name, having also claimed the 2021 Gold Coast Club Champion award as well as representation in the 2021 All Australian squad.
“I love what this game has given me, and while I’m going to miss being part of it, most of all I’ll miss the people I’ve been lucky enough to share it with,” Ahrens said.
"Without a doubt, the greatest gift in footy is the people you meet, and I’m so grateful that a 26-year-old who was just hoping to play one VFLW game ended up finding some incredible people both here at the Bulldogs and at the SUNS.
“I’m incredibly thankful for my time in footy, and I’m really looking forward to what comes next.”
Executive Manager Women’s Football Patrice Berthold thanked Ahrens for her contributions.
“Loz came to us at a really important time and made an immediate impact,” Berthold said.
“A fierce competitor, she brought great determination to her football and placed enormous value on the relationships and connections she built within our playing group.
“Her commitment to AFLW football while balancing a teaching career was significant, and we thank Loz for her contribution to our program and wish her every success in her next chapter.”
