Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge said his side will be able to take plenty from its Marsh Community Series win against North Melbourne.

The Bulldogs recorded a 44-point win against the Kangaroos at Marvel Stadium on Friday night, with Beveridge most impressed by the way his team approached the game.

“We looked like the team we should be,” Beveridge said post-game.

"We've been working on a lot of things over pre-season and trying to progress what we've been doing, and there were a lot of good signs.

"Some of our ball use, taking it forward under pressure and other times being a bit more measured, there were some good signs there and I thought we were hard in the contest."

“Yes, it’s a pre-season game, but they all count.

“We dropped our first two last year and it was important for the club to get off on a positive note, and we did. It’s a good outcome.”

Beveridge praised new skipper Marcus Bontempelli for setting the tone.

The star midfielder collected 37 disposals and kicked two goals to be a clear best-on-ground.

“Marcus for a long period of time has been an ‘every time’ player,” Beveridge said.

“He sets a great physical example out there. He’s obviously our new captain, he’s never needed a formal title to show how good a leader he is but he really led from the front tonight.

“His work on the track has been next level and he brings other people along with him to aspire to be the best that they can be.”
